This is our 3rd concurrent bid for WUDC. We believe this clearly exhibits our desire, our long term vision and our ability to sustain an organization. If we had won our first bid in Vancouver in 2006, we would be inviting you at Botswana in a few weeks. Instead, in a few weeks we are organizing the first Pan-African Universities Debating Championships. Our bid has got stronger each year, and we honestly believe we can host not just the best Worlds in Africa, but the best Worlds, period.
Botswana Wins Bid to Host Worlds in 2011
It's official, we have done it!
After 3 years, we have won the right to host the World Universities Debating Championships in the University of Botswana!
This moment would never have been possible without the stubborn dedication of those crazy students in UB, the university administration, the sponsors and YOU!
Thank you for your faith and support. You have made the difference.
Now we real work begins - stay with us as we build the best Worlds possible and reinvigorate debate in Africa!
And a HAPPY NEW YEAR to everyone!!!
1st Pan African Championships come to a close!
Hello Everyone!
It gives me great pleasure to announce that the University of the Free State from South Africa has emerged as the
winners of the Inaugural Pan-African Universities Debating Championship
which was held in Gaborone Botswana. The finals comprised:
Radio Talk Show
The airport is less than 20 minutes from the city, which is good. Justice and Matt pullup in 30 minutes or so and we whizz into the city. On the way we pass a huge new DTC (Diamond Trading Company) and Debswana building.
My first impression of Botswana was that it is wide and flat, and brown and green, and ..relaxed. The roads are wide and cars moving along briskly, but not in a hurry. Justice said in Botswana, they say, "people hurry slowly". After the hustle of 10 million strong megacity, the change is refreshing.
Going to Botswana
In two days I leave for the African Continent, for my second time in 5 years! Stellenbosch 2003 was one the best Worlds ever, perhaps number two on my Best Worlds List (yes, I have one), second only to MMU of course =]
I'm going to try and blog every inch of this journey. I hope this will help people understand how one gets to Botswana and get an idea of all the lovely attractions that await.
